So, this is where my little donation flowered, one responded to a call for cash to employ lawyers, due to unhinged social workers taking 200(???) i think, children away from 'devil worshippers.' Listening to an interview with a qualified G.P. saying, on t.v. that 2/3 of parents were involved in black magick, abusing their children, was absurd! This fellow was obviously suffering from paranoid delusion, and in need of rapid attention/care/treatment. One did rejoice to hear the statement, issued by radio, that these (Island dwelling, I think) social workers had been exposed as hard core Christian fundamentalists, who truly believed they were battling the 'devil'. Where have we heard this before? From The Vatican through to the witchfinders, in fact; the burning times. Back to the point. One is well versed in psychology, Psychiatry, and can, with clear conviction state that: Evoking The Gotia, and harmonising these elements, IS psychotherapy. RE: Dr. Hyatt's work with Mr. DuQuette. I can only say that, many Psychiatrists are well aware of their patients who are magicians-witches etc. and help them through as the individual requires. Their hands are, largely, bound by home office rulings. We are at a time of great change, where it is possible, to steer things in optimum directions. Yes I might well be able to assist. KUTGW.

This is part of the general attack on alternative healing which has been making progress for years. They authorities seem poised for victory.

Anyone who wants to express a view on this regulation can do so through this body and it should be noted the final decision as to what happens rests with parliament. Why does this matter to you? Since the core techniques of analysis consist of talking to someone about your past, or your dreams, who will you be able to talk to if these activities are regulated?

And, for anyone thinking "It's about bloody time - analysis doesn't fix problems does it?" it's not just psychoanalysis that will be at threat.

The govt. Health Professions Council has received several applications to regulate Counselling (helping someone solve their own problems) and Psychotherapy* (giving them advice or help with what they're worrying about). That means sweeping changes.

This is presumably the route they'll take to ban alternative medicine, new age type remedies, etc. and innovation of all kinds outside of the fundamentally conservative medical** professions.

Years ago the SAFF was warning that the medical lobby would go this route and has now been vindicated. Your rights to choose how and by whom you can be treated are about to be seriously eroded. And the justification? Well you need protecting don't you? You're not bright enough to know whether psychoanlysis has any value for you, so you should listen to the experts shouldn't you?

Of course, there's a clamour in the world of alternative medicine and psychological therapy to be regulated. They, no doubt scent the benefits to them of "legitimacy" and reduced competition that a closed profession gives. Fees will rocket. They'll have to because....

They in turn will be fleeced by their trainers (as in these areas, the professional bodies are often linked to training schools) who will drive up costs to the public by insisting that qualified practitioners do lots of additional training to keep their registration - not to mention putting up their prices to milk more from new practitioners and make it harder (financially - remember this is not actually about standards) for them to qualify.

*Yes I know the word can mean a lot more than this and it is it's this very vagueness that will allow all sorts of activities to become illegal. Imagine what a field day lawyers will have with such an ambiguous term at the hands of those who want to ban all competition.

** Once eminent professor of psychiatry, responsible for the training of many in his profession commented that psychiatry had given up much that was useful IN ORDER TO BE ACCEPTED BY THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. A statement that will bear much meditation.
